Beijing to Tianjin to Sea (March 21 & 22)

I am writing this the morning of March 22 @ 0730 local time (+8 GMT). We are north of Yantai, China (38-08.96 N / 121-45.27 E) on a heading of 118 degrees moving at 18 knots. It is 34 degrees on deck. The relative wind is on the port beam at 45 knots. Seas remain less than 2 feet. Later today we will round the tip of the peninsula and turn to a more SSW course for Shanghai.

Yesterday after a relaxing morning yesterday doing some exploring in the environs of our Beijing hotel, we boarded a coach bus for the three hour trip to Tianjin and VOYAGER. The process of boarding the ship went smoothly and uneventfully although check-in took a bit longer than expected given Regent's reputation for customer service.

Our stateroom attendants Vivek and Ni greeted us warmer. Some of our bags were already in the room and the remainder arrived in short order. We were completely unpacked before the lifeboat drill.

The ship left the pier and headed out of the harbor at 1930. It being both dark and cold on deck, we decided to forego watching the process, instead opting for cocktails, dinner with a couple we met during our land tour (he is retired USN nuclear submarine captain who we discovered during dinner was class of '60 at Tabor Academy in Marion, MA).  Then it was off to bed.

Today we have nothing specific planned, enjoying the hospitality of the ship. Since the hiccup during check-in, the service has been consistently excellent.
