Next we traveled to The Royal Palace & Wat Phra Si Sanphet. The palace is an ancient site next to a present day Buddhist temple. We first visited the former palace.

It must have been really something to see when the palace was in use, including elephants roaming the grounds. Unfortunately the centuries have not been kind to this site.

Neither has man. Most of the buddhas we saw had no head. The whole Buddha being too heavy to move, souvenir hunters broke off the head.

We proceeded to the temple, along the way getting squirted with water and our faces smeared with a talcum powder paste.

These are a traditional party of the Thai celebration of Songkran - a 3-day water festival beginning April 13 that marks the beginning of the Buddhist new year; this year being 2555.

Next stop - the Summer Palace.
