Luang Prabang, Laos (April 14)

Much of the day was spent moving from Bangkok to Luang Probang; a two-hour flight. We arrived in Luang Prabang mid-afternoon. The celebration of Lao New Year (Phi Mai), which begins a day after the Thai New Year, was well underway.

After getting ourselves and our bags to the Ban Lao Hotel without getting wet...

...we changed into shorts and tee-shirts, then headed out for a walk with the full expectation of getting wet. We remainder dry all the way to the front gate of the hotel, a distance of about forty feet.

Continuing to take occasional water hits (including iced water), but successfully avoiding the colored water, talcum powder...

...and soot...

...we walked around enjoying this picturesque community that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We had dinner at a small restaurant overlooking the Mekong River.

We wandered through the night market on the way back to the hotel.

Our ability to read Lao seemed to miraculously albeit only momentarily improve; we could read all the signs at this food stand.
