Vientiane (April 18)

Today is an R&R day as Pam and I prepared to begin our trip home and Guild caught up on some work.

We began the day with breakfast on his front porch.
As you can see on my plate, the menu was waffles (made from scratch and including cornmeal and yogurt) with fresh mangoes and genuine maple syrup. Witness the master at work.
Later in the morning we took a drive north to see some of the countryside. We got as far as the Namgum River...
...where we had something to eat and drink. Leaning on the porch rail to take pictures would have been a really bad idea - fire ants.

Returning to Vientiane we saw school children bicycling home from their morning session.

Back at Guild's home, he headed to the office for a meeting, Pam explored his library.  I tried to get caught up on my blog postings.

Since joining Guild, Pam & I having been faithful to our commitment to eating local dishes. Guild who eats local foods all the time has announced he is ready for a change, so this evening we likely will be enjoying French cuisine. French influence having been considerable in Laos history, the legacy of french cooking remains, so arguably it could be considered eating local foods; well, sort of.

The previous paragraph including the future tense, I am actually caught up on my postings, although a great deal of editing needs to be done before I print and bind the final version as a record of our trip. And there are still future entries to make.
