Luang Prabang (April 15) - market and trip on the Mekong

Before the water throwers along with their talcum powder and soot cohorts were out and about we had visited the local morning market...
  
 
...and were on the Mekong in one of the long, narrow powerboats.

  
  
  

This long flight of stairs from the water's edge...


...is a short flight by the end of the rainy season when the depth of the river increases approximately 30 feet!

Before we went aboard, several people came off the boat. As soon as we disembarked, the people went back aboard. Looking at the back of the boat, the enclosed section provided the answer.


It is where the family lives when the boat is not in service.
