Ho Chi Minh City (April 05)

The next few postings will be short on text as I am behind on my blog vis-a-vis where we are in our trip. I may still not be able to stay current as we are busy every day between now and the day we head home.

Although now officially Ho Chi Minh City, the locals still call it Saigon therefore so shall I for the rest of this posting.

This is the Palace of Reunification marking the end of a divided Vietnam. The country may be reunited on paper, but the contrast between northern and southern Vietnam remains dramatic, the former sullen, reclusive and strewn with litter while the latter is vibrant, welcoming and much cleaner.

Our next stop was a lacquer furnishings plant (I.e. the daily "crafts" stop). I'mnot sure I'dbe smoking a cigarette in those fumes.

By the way, these workers and Vietnamese was have seen through the country squat like this for hours at a time.

We moved to the cultural center for a water puppet show.

After seeing some of the cultural museum's collection...

...it was into rickshaws onto the streets of Saigon.

A peak inside the central post office...

...a quick visit to a(nother) temple....

...a stop at a(nother) local market...

...and it was back to the ship.
